Der Flachdocht ist eine geflochtene und gewachste Baumwollschnur. Durch das geflochtene Muster der Baumwollschnur entsteht eine Kapillarwirkung und dadurch wird das Wachs angesaugt. Der Flachdocht ist für Bienenwachskerzen ungeeignet. Der Flachdocht eignet sich für Paraffinkerzen, Paraffin/Stearin-Kerzen und Krakelierwachskerzen. Wichtig: Die Laufrichtung des Flechtmusters ist beim Flachdocht nicht zu beachten. Die Größe des Dochtes ist abhängig von der Kerzendicke. Wenn ein zu dünner Docht gewählt wird ist die Flamme klein und brennt schlecht, ist der Docht jedoch zu dick, rußt die Kerze. Diese eingewachsten Flachdochte mit Metallplättchen eignen sich optimal für Schwimm-, Teelichtkerzen.
